Frequently Asked Questions

1

What states do you see patients in?

I'm currently licensed to provide care in Arizona and Montana. I can only see patients physically located in a state where I'm licensed at the time of the appointment.

2

What ages do you work with?

I see patients age 16 and older.

3

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first visit is a full hour-long evaluation, not a rushed intake. We'll go through your history, current symptoms, goals, and what's brought you in, and by the end of the visit we'll have a plan together and your follow-up already scheduled.

4

Is telehealth actually effective for psychiatric care?

Yes. Research consistently shows telehealth psychiatric care produces outcomes comparable to in-person care for the majority of conditions I treat, and for many patients, the convenience and privacy of a virtual visit makes it easier to actually keep the appointment and be honest in it.

5

How soon can I be seen?

Most new patients are seen within one to two weeks of booking. My available hours vary day to day, with evenings usually offering the most openings, so it's worth checking the schedule directly when you book.

6

What is Headway?

Headway is the platform I use to handle scheduling, insurance verification, billing, and secure video visits. You'll book your appointment and complete intake paperwork through their system, then meet with me directly over video at your scheduled time.

Clinical Navigation

1

What therapeutic techniques are used?

While medication management is central to our work together, I integrate evidence-based therapeutic approaches into sessions as well, tailored to what you're working through. Depending on your needs, this may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and exposure and response prevention (ERP) for OCD. We'll figure out together which approach, or combination, fits your goals.

2

How are treatment plans developed?

Treatment plans are collaborative efforts involving a comprehensive clinical assessment. We align medical history, current symptoms, and person-centered goals to create a structured path forward.

3

What if I'm in crisis right now?

Telehealth scheduling is not equipped for emergencies. If you're in crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, please call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.

Insurance & Billing

1

How do I pay, and do you take my insurance?

All booking and billing goes through Headway, an insurance-friendly platform that verifies your coverage before your appointment. See the Insurance & Fees page for which plans I currently accept and self-pay rates if you're not using insurance.

2

What if I have Medicaid or Medicare and I want to be seen as self-pay instead?

I'm not currently enrolled with Medicare or Medicaid, so I'm unable to see patients with Medicare or Medicaid coverage, including on a self-pay basis.

3

What if my insurance is out-of-network?

If we are not in-network with your provider, you may still be eligible for reimbursement through out-of-network benefits. We can provide a 'Superbill' (detailed invoice) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. We recommend contacting your insurer to confirm their out-of-network mental health coverage.
